Additional Achievement Units
Q: What about teachers who are beyond Interval 14? Can they earn additional AUs?
A: Anyone can earn additional AU’s, however only staff on intervals 1-13 can accelerate their progress through the interval scale through attainment of additional AU’s.
Q: If I’m on interval 16, can I get any additional compensation the following year?
A: Yes. While there are no further interval salary increases, teachers can expand base salary through attainment of credits. Beginning in 2017, teachers may also apply for Model Teacher status. If awarded, they will receive a stipend equal to 7.5% of their teacher interval salary starting in the 2017-2018 school year.
Q: Can you take a class for credit and get an additional AU?
A: No. Staff will have to decide between taking the class for credit and applying for it as an Additional Achievement Unit. Since the Additional Achievement Units contribute to compensation, this would be considered being doubly-compensated.
Q: Can you do any activity for a stipend get an additional AU?
A: No. Since the Additional Achievement Units contribute to compensation, this would be considered being doubly-compensated.
Q: Can I also get staff development hours for AU activities?
A: Yes, however they cannot be applied to the credit rollover every three years.
Q: Can we “bank” additional AUs? For example, if I only earn one additional AU this year, none the next, but then two the following, can I still advance an additional interval?
A: Yes
Q: Do one credit classes earn an AU or do you have to take a 4 credit course?
A: At this point, all AU bearing opportunities need to be applied for to the TQP, regardless of how many credits are offered for it elsewhere.
Q: If I do an AU activity on an ongoing basis, can I get continual AU’s?
A: No
Q: Will the TQP just reject our application and that’s the end of it?
A: The TQP will provide a response with feedback and recommendations. Self-Evaluation
Self-Evaluation
Q: Does everyone do the self-evaluation whether on peer or administrative evaluation cycle?
A: Yes
Q: Will my self-evaluation ratings be factored in to future model teacher determinations by the TQP?
A: Your self evaluation is a tool to track and guide personal growth as an educator. The TQP will not be using self-evaluations for any model teacher determinations.
Q: Do you have to reflect on every domain?
A: Yes
Q: Do we have to respond on every component within each domain?
A: No. Focus on components within each domain where you feel you’ve experienced professional growth and areas you feel you should target for growth.
Q: When does the self-evaluation need to be completed?
A: Self-Evaluations are due in May of each year. For specific dates, please visit the district Supervision and Evaluation Page.
